*****Bird Walk with Technology at Frog Hollow Nature Area
May 3, 2025 8:00-9:30 AM
Meet at the Frog Hollow parking area on Stone Mountain Road outside of Friedensburg.
We will stroll through Frog Hollow and look and listen for birds that either live at Frog Hollow year-round or are stopping there during their migration north. We will also show you the technology that is now available to birders. But with that technology comes the responsibility to use it ethically so we’ll discuss the do’s and don’ts of birding with technology.
The trails may be rough and wet at this time of year so wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Bring along insect repellent and water.
Free and open to the public.

*****Plant and Seed Exchange sponsored by The Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association
Sunday, May 18 2025 2:00 PM  At the Waterfall Parking Lot off Waterfall Road.
We will be in the smaller pavilion closer to the overflow. PLEASE NOTE: Another event will be in the large pavilion.
As you are working in your garden, pot up any extra plants, label them and bring to the plant swap. Bring your extra plants, from dividing or volunteer seedlings, and swap for an equivalent number of different plants potted by your neighbors. Includes flowers, herbs, veggies, house plants, trees, shrubs, and bulbs/tubers. Also bring seeds you have collected-in individual envelopes, labeled and dated.
You can use popsicle sticks or recycled plastic spoons and knives or cut out tabs from plastic jugs for labels.
This is an interactive event where everyone has an opportunity to present their plants, along with anecdotal sharing on origins and care suggestions. This has become a twice annual (Spring and Fall) community event to spend time with like-minded neighbors. Free and open to the public.

*****Red Creek Wildlife Center
It’s getting Wild at the Sweet Arrow Lake Waterfall Pavilion on Saturday, June 7 at 2:00 pm
Red Creek gives over 4000 sick and injured wild animals a year a second chance through rehabilitation. There are only 27 wildlife rehabs in the state of Pennsylvania so we are fortunate to have their valuable services here in Schuylkill County. We have taken a number of injured animals found at Sweet Arrow to Red Creek over the years including one of our first Bald Eaglets that was injured when their nest fell. Their wildlife outreach program introduces some of their wild friends who share our planet and provides information about the animals and what they do at the Center. This program is FREE and open to the public and is sponsored by the Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association with the help of a grant from the Benevolent Association of Pottsville. Rain or Shine the Pavilion is fine. If it’s fair, bring a chair for seating on the lawn. The Waterfall Pavilion is at 48 Waterfall Rd., Pine Grove. For info call 570-345-8952 (leave a message)
